Meet Drew Jacobs: Attorney with a Background in Sports and Passion for Innovation

My name is Drew Jacobs, and I’m an attorney based in New York City with a deep passion for sports, entertainment, and gaming law. Originally from North Jersey, I’ve been fortunate to blend my background as a former college athlete with my professional career, bringing unique insights and discipline to the clients I represent.

From Athlete to Attorney

My journey into the legal world started on the basketball courts at Boston College, where I walked on to the men’s basketball team. Playing at a competitive level taught me invaluable lessons—discipline, resilience, teamwork, and the importance of showing up, no matter the challenge. These experiences have directly translated into my approach as an attorney, enabling me to serve clients with the same commitment and determination that I brought to the court.

After graduating from Boston College, I pursued my legal education, starting at the University of Miami before finishing my degree at Seton Hall Law School. The drive and focus I developed as an athlete have been instrumental in shaping my career and approach to law.

Building My Own Practice

From the beginning, I knew I didn’t want to follow the traditional big law firm route. I wanted to create something of my own—a practice that would allow me to use my unique background and skills to represent clients in a way that felt authentic and personalized. That vision led to the founding of Jacobs Counsel, my law firm focused on providing innovative and client-focused legal services.

Practicing in Sports, Entertainment, and Gaming Law

Over the past few years, I’ve been fortunate to represent a wide range of businesses and individuals in the sports, entertainment, and gaming industries. My practice includes:

  • Sports Law: Representing athletes, teams, and organizations in matters such as NIL agreements, contract negotiations, and compliance.

  • Entertainment Law: Assisting clients with intellectual property, licensing, and creative agreements.

  • Gaming Law: Advising companies on regulatory compliance, geolocation issues, and gaming agreements.

While I practice in these areas, my work also extends to other industries, giving me a diverse legal background that allows me to adapt to the unique needs of my clients.

A Client-Centered Approach

What sets my practice apart is my commitment to building meaningful relationships with clients. Whether working with startups, established businesses, or individuals, I take pride in providing tailored advice and innovative solutions. My athletic background has instilled in me a deep sense of accountability and perseverance, which I bring to every client relationship.

Serving Clients Locally and Nationally

Based in New York City, I work with clients across the tri-state area and beyond. My goal is to be a trusted partner, helping businesses and individuals navigate complex legal challenges with confidence.

If you’re in the sports, entertainment, or gaming industry—or if you’re a business looking for a fresh approach to legal services—I’d love the opportunity to work with you. Let’s create a winning strategy together.
